Design for Exploration with Bran Ferren of Applied Minds

Bran Ferren's presentation will describe the creative design, engineering and execution of The KiraVan Expedition System - a state of the art vehicle for global exploration with the most advanced navigation, imaging, navigation, and communications integrated into this class of vehicle to date. It has been designed not only to enable a wide variety of field research and film production activities, but also to safely take his family and 6 year old daughter along for the adventure.

Southern Cross Presents: Astronomy Music, Dr. James Webb

Dr. Webb will present his musical program,entitled Astronomy Music, which will include live version of several of the songs from his CD "Reaching for the Stars" as well as renditions of popular astronomy-themed songs on finger-style guitar.

Gravitational Waves, New Planets and other facebook discoveries!

Dr. Webb will discuss the "breaking News" aspect of public media such as facebook. He will give several cases where misleading reports flood the social media making "discoveries" where there are none. We will discuss the nature of scientific discovery and proper channels for releasing "discoveries".

We are hosting a fundraiser for the GuitART festival coming up in the spring. The money raised will all go toward bringing guitarists in from across the country to perform at the festival. Please see Dr. Webb of Dr. Mesut Ozgen for details and reservations.

A star party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek. Bring your best star trek uniforms (no red shirts please, don't want to lose anyone). Dr. Webb will give a NASA update and discuss a bit about star trek and why the telescope control room looks like a star ship bridge. Munchies, astronomers, telescopes if weather permits!
