The ACE 24" telescope is coming to the Stocker Astroscience center on Saturday October 25, 2014.
This long awaited instrument will complete phase one of the Stocker Astroscience center. The telescope will be lifted from a flatbed truck on Saturday morning and hoisted up 4 stories and set down inside the observing room through the slit. Should be a great show!
The telescope will be fully automated and operated out of the control room, or over the internet from remote locations. The dome rotation will be linked to the telescope and a brand new CCD camera will be installed complete with scientific filters (UBVRI) and imaging filters (LRGB). We will also install a video camera on back of the telescope so we can project what it is seeing onto tv screens throughout the Stocker center and elsewhere on campus.
