On Friday, July 26, the Ash dome was lifted atop the 4 story Stocker AstroScience tower where it will permanently reside. The lift took place at approximately 10:45 in the morning.

The Dome arrived last Monday for the Stocker Astroscience center. It is being built this week and will be lifted and installed hopefully on Friday if all goes well!

Construction of the observatory progresses with the final concrete pour last week, and expected dome installation around July 24th or 25th. The windows and doors are also scheduled to be installed in late July. Although interior build-out has commenced, drywall and the flooring cannot be installed until the windows and doors are installed and secured. We are anxiously awaiting delivery of the glass tile mosaic for the exhibition hall as well. Things are truely coming together!

FIU and the SARA Consortium recently won a large NSF MRI grant to take over and refurbish the JKT telescope in the Canary Islands. THe telescope will be automated and added to the arsenal of SARA telescopes available to FIU astronomers alongside the 0.9-meter at Kitt peak and the 0.6-meter at Cerro Tololo Chile.

The Meade 12" LX-200 telescope was lifted onto the steel framework in the Stocker Astroscience center dome and set up in preparation for observing. Al we need now is the green light to occupy the building and we are in business!
